Oktoberfest Comes To The Deli

Starting this Wednesday, September 28th The Deli and Z Bar celebrate the 201st Oktoberfest.  Our 25 day celebration runs through October 22nd.  Stop by and enjoy some of Munich’s finest brews as well as our take on some great Bavarian dishes.

Lunch and Dinner feature menus offer Bavarian Wursts, Weiner Schnitzel, Sausage and Cheese Beer Soup, as well as other Bavarian favorites.

By the time our celebration is over we’ll have tapped over 2o different brands of Oktoberfest, Märzen, and Fest Beers from America and Germany. Click Here for the current Z Bar draft list.  Prosit!

Pumpkin Ravioli are back baby!

The weather is getting colder and we’ve started to drink fuller bodied wines so we decided it’s time to start making Pumpkin Ravioli again.

These babies are fresh from scratch.  It all starts in our kitchen with the filling… made from roasted whole pumpkins, combined with amaretti cookies, homemade mostarda di cremona (for those non-foodies that’s a fruit mustard), breadcrumbs, and romano cheese. We then stuff the filling into our house-made pasta sheets and serve with our homemade walnut pesto sauce.

We love these so much we can’t wait to share them with you!  Available for lunch, dinner, or as an appetizer.  See you soon! Ciao.

Pumpkin Beers Are Back!

The evenings are getting cooler, football is is back and fans of craft beer celebrate the fastest growing seasonal brew.  Pumpkin ales are now in full-effect and this year there are more selections than ever!

The Hopshop (our bottle shop located below The Deli Restaurant) offers over 10 selections and will even have a few tapped for growler fills including long time favorites Dogfish Head Punkin, Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin and newcomer Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin.

Z Bar at The Deli currently has tapped Dogfish Head and Weyerbacher, but we’ll have Southern Tier Pumking and Samuel Adams Harvest Pumpkin soon.  You can always find a draft list on The Deli’s / Z Bar’s web page, but we suggest stopping in to have a beer and find out for yourself.

Want our two cents?… We like Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin and Dogfish Head Punkin, but you should definitely check out many of this years brews, there are several solid choices out there… cheers!

Life & Limb 2: A collaboration brew by Dogfish Head & Sierra Nevada

We’re happy to have received cases and kegs of Life & Limb 2 today!  The highly anticipated collaboration by Sam Calagione (Dogfish Head) and Ken Grossman (Sierra Nevada) will be tapped as a part of Z Bar’s State College Brew Expo’s Brewers Reception on Friday, August 19th at 7pm.  750ml cork and cage bottles are also available for take-out a The Hopshop as well.  This brew wouldn’t last long so be sure to stop and get a taste this weekend!
Life & Limb is a 10% ABV strong beer that defies style characteristics-brewed with pure maple syrup from the Calagione family farm in Massachusetts and estate barley grown on the Grossman “farm” at the brewery in Chico. The beer is alive with yeast-a blend of both breweries’ house strains-bottle conditioned for added complexity and shelf life, and naturally carbonated with birch syrup fresh from Alaska; it is the first beer we know of ever to use birch syrup in the brew. If stored under good conditions, this rich, full-bodied beer should age well for years.

VineTalk Wino & Foodie Workshops Kicks Off

What a great way to end the summer and kick of a great fall season! We were so excited to host our first VineTalk Wino & Foodie workshop at Mario’s last night. Workshop participants got to do a taste comparison of Italian and non-Italian Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sangiovese. And of course we snacked on a yummy Antipasto plate that included a beautiful Shaved Fresh Fennel Salad, a few cheeses and fresh Kalymna figs! If you missed the fun, don’t fret — all wines are ready for you to try from our state-of-the-art wine preservation system. Try a few in a flight or have a glass with something from the new bar menu!
